Your RSS feed is used in most podcast applications including Apple Podcasts, Overcast, BeyondPod, Pocket Casts, and others. Your RSS feed must be properly configured in order to submit to Apple Podcasts, and other similar applications that rely on your RSS feed.
Configuring your RSS feed
All feed configuration is based on your Show Settings and the episodes you publish. Advanced settings and other overrides, however; are available by editing the RSS feed destination itself.
To get started, hover over Destinations —> Edit/View Existing.
Locate Libsyn Classic Feed in the listing and hit edit.
Important Note: the destination can be renamed, so it may appear with a different name. Look for the destination that has the RSS feed icon.
The form for configuring the RSS feed will appear.
Aside from the feed extension and advanced options, the RSS feed is configured under Show Settings. If a field required according to Apple Podcasts specifications has not yet been configured, an alert will appear letting you know that you need to update your Show Settings for the feed to work correctly in Apple Podcasts or other podcast directories.
Once all fields are properly configured in Show Settings, this alert will go away.
Feed Extension - The feed extension is the last piece of the feed URL. This can be customized, however; we recommend leaving this at its default setting.
Overrides & Advanced RSS feed Settings
As mentioned earlier, most of your feed configuration comes from your Show Settings and the episodes you publish. However, you may wish to override certain fields, or perform certain advanced functions depending on your needs.
These options can be found under Advanced Options.
Up first on this form are field overrides. These allow you to set specific text that override what is in Show Settings only for this destination.
Show Title (Override) - Entering a title here will override the show title in this destination, compared to what is entered in Show Settings.
Author (Override) - Entering an Author here will override the show title in this destination, compared to what is entered in Show Settings.
Description (Override) - Entering a Description here will override the show title in this destination, compared to what is entered in Show Settings.
For example, if my overall show title is My Awesome Show but in Apple Podcasts, I want my title to be My Very Awesome Show, putting the second title into your title override will ensure that second title is used in Apple Podcasts (and those others that pull from the feed), but not in directories such as Spotify or iHeartRadio which have their own destination settings.
Use Show Image for Episodes - If you have previously uploaded episodic artwork, and now want all the artwork to match the artwork under Settings > Edit Show settings, checking this box will have all episodes showing the current show artwork.
Important Note: By default episodes use the show's artwork when no other artwork is added. This option is used to override artwork that was previously used and ensure all episodes have the same artwork. If you have not uploaded episode art, you do not need this setting.
Episode/Post Limit - This setting limits the number of episodes in your RSS feed. By default, the RSS feed will show the newest 100 episodes. Setting the limit to No Limit will allow all episodes to be available in your RSS feed.
Apple Podcasts only displays the last 300 episodes in their store. Subscribing provides access to all episodes in the RSS feed.
Use Plain Text Description - This will remove formatting and code from all episode descriptions in the RSS feed.
Disable Dynamic Advertising - If your show has dynamic advertising enabled, checking this option would turn it off for the RSS feed.
Redirect Feed to this Web Address - If you ever decide to leave Libsyn and move to a different platform, you would enter the feed of you new platform in this field.
Extra RSS Tags- If you have additional RSS tags you wish to enter into your feed, enter them here. Please note that additional tags you enter may invalidate your feed, so validating your RSS feed after entry is imperative.
If you are setting up new feed URL tags for your RSS feed as part of a migration, you would enter that tag into this text box as explained here.
Once you are done with your changes, hit the Save button.
